MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Four members of the Middle Tennessee women's golf team recently were recognized as All-American scholar recipients by the National Golf Coaches Association for their academic and athletic performances during the 2007-08 academic year.
Jamey Dillard, Taryn Durham, Clara Leathers and Leigh Wilkins earned the prestigious honor and were selected to the All-American Scholar Team after producing grade point averages in excess of 3.5 during the academic year.
"It's a very good honor and I'm proud of all these young ladies for what they represent on and off the golf course," Middle Tennessee women's coach Chris Adams said. "This is great praise for them for being students, as well as athletes. Golfers miss a lot of class so the demands on these players are high. It says a lot about them for being able to manage their academics and athletics, and it says a lot about our academic support staff for assisting in their needs to be successful."
Criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the United States and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
