BEIJING - Former Blue Raider Tjerk Smeets received his first start behind the plate as the Netherlands faced South Korea in its final preliminary game of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Netherlands lost to South Korea 10-0 and recorded just four hits in the game.
Smeets went 0 for 3 in the outing with one strikeout but on the defensive side of the ball recorded seven putouts.
Eugene Kingsale and Raily Legito led the Netherlands as each went 1 for 4 with assistance from Bryan Engelhardt who was 1 for 3.
South Korea hit two home runs in the win which accounted for three of its runs and were the only extra base hits in the game.
The Netherlands did not advance to the medal round which begins on Friday, August 22.
