TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman Bryce Brentz has been named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.
The 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans feature a wealth of baseball talent. The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of The Year left-handed pitcher Chris Hernandez of the University of Miami (Fla.) and Freshman Player of The Year outfielder Ryan Lockwood of South Florida.
Brentz received the honor after helping guide the Blue Raiders offensively in 2008. Brentz was named Freshman of the Year by the Sun Belt Conference and was a second team all conference selection.
Brentz hit 18 home runs in 2008 tying him with junior Rawley Bishop for first on the team. Brentz was second on the team in RBI with 68. He recorded 14 doubles and scored 49 runs as he batted .329 during his freshman campaign.
Brentz was 13 for 16 on the bases and 1-0 on the mound with 28.2 innings pitched in seven appearances. Brentz posted an ERA of 2.20 with batters hitting just .178 against him.
Brentz is the only Sun Belt player named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team.
